Judge Harlin Hale, the Texas judge handling the NRA bankruptcy case, threw out the filing May 11. The claim was dismissed “without prejudice,” meaning the NRA can attempt to file again, but Judge Hale said he would appoint a trustee to supervise the organization if the NRA did so.
Judge Hale said the filing was in “bad faith,” very likely an attempt to avoid their New York legal troubles. The NRA would be given an “unfair litigation advantage,” according to the judge. He also alleged NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre was the mastermind behind it all, trying to protect the association from future litigation.
“Excluding so many people from the process of deciding to file for bankruptcy, including the vast majority of the board of directors, the chief financial officer and the general counsel, is nothing less than shocking,” Hale wrote.
