2020 saw record firearm background checks, with nearly every month setting a new record and ending the year at nearly 40 million total. The first half of 2021 appears to be no different. FBI numbers show an increase of approximately 56% over 2020, or 22.2 million.
Keep in mind that background checks are not only for new gun purchases, but also account for used firearm transfers, concealed carry check and re-checks, and the like. With these numbers, it’s tough trying to sell the idea of “background check loopholes” or firearm transfers without a check.
