After cancelling the hearing for Colorado’s “assault weapons” ban, a couple weeks went by and everyone relaxed. Despite warnings to the contrary, the worst legislation that could be passed for gun owners in the state never really went away – it was simply postponed.
Wednesday, April 19, 1:30 pm, is the new date and time. It will certainly “go” this time since the other junk legislation against gun owners this session has been passed and sent on to the Governor. Same tips apply – contact your legislators and express your displeasure in a non-threatening way, and plan to attend the hearings in person if you can. One of the reasons for the original postponement was the pressure put on the legislators by gun owners. They think it will wane with time.
One bright spot, however, was Gov. Polis striking off some of the components of the bill that would allow people to sue gun manufacturers. They will be treated basically the same as all other businesses in the event of a lawsuit being filed against them. Same rights of evidence, same rules of procedure, same need to prove the grievance, etc.
