The Colorado Legislature failed to pass this session’s “assault weapons ban” out of committee this week, actually getting a few Democrats to vote with the Republican against the bill. That’s probably the end for this year, but the session still has a few weeks left. And, there’s always NEXT year. The final defeat came after the bill’s sponsor tried to attach an amendment downgrading the bill to a ban on bump stocks.
Meanwhile, the ATF licensing process for Short-Barreled Rifles (SBRs) goes on, despite legal challenges from several states and organizations. If you haven’t filed yet, time is running out on the time it takes to approve, and you could end up with an illegal firearm. The Supreme Court is expected to eventually have to decide on its legality but, for now, that’s the requirement.
The other bills I’ve been talking about in earlier posts are passed out of the Legislature and sitting on Governor Jared Polis’ desk. He wants to be President, so it will be interesting to see how he handles each one, with not all of them appealing to moderation in gun control. Keep watching!
